Weaning is a developmental journey that evolves rapidly. A 6-month-old starting solids has entirely different swallowing skills, digestion capabilities, and nutritional requirements than a 10-month-old chewing soft finger foods. Planning a healthy baby meal prep requires knowing which foods fit which stage.

To help you navigate this progression, we have gathered **eight child-friendly recipes** directly from our recipe database—two for each major age milestone, forming a comprehensive baby food recipes index. We detail the ingredients, preparation steps, and explain how the TummyJr application automatically plans and schedules these stage by stage baby recipes based on your baby’s dietary needs.

1 6 Months (Stage 1): First Tastes & Runny Purees

Digestive Focus: Single-ingredient, easily digestible foods. Texture should be a completely smooth, thin puree to assist swallowing coordination.

Recipe 1: Apple Puree

Ingredients: 1/2 medium Apple, 2-3 tbsp warm water or breastmilk.

Steps: Peel and core the apple, then slice it into small chunks. Steam or boil for 8-10 minutes until tender. Blend thoroughly, thinning with liquid until it forms a smooth, spoonable texture.

Recipe 2: Banana Mash

Ingredients: 1/2 ripe Banana, 1-2 tbsp breastmilk or formula.

Steps: Peel a fully ripe banana. Mash it thoroughly in a bowl using a fork until completely smooth. Stir in liquid until it is a soft, runny mash that drops easily from a spoon.

2 7 to 8 Months (Stage 2): Thicker Mashes & Soft Lumps

Digestive Focus: Introducing multi-ingredient meals and fiber. Textures transition to mashes with tiny, soft lumps to build jaw strength.

Recipe 1: Apple Cinnamon Porridge

Ingredients: 2 tbsp Oats, 1/2 Apple (peeled & diced), 1/2 cup water, pinch of Cinnamon.

Steps: Cook diced apple and oats in water for 10 minutes until soft. Mash with a fork, leaving tiny soft fruit lumps. Stir in a tiny pinch of cinnamon and cool.

Recipe 2: Aloo Gobi Mash

Ingredients: 1/4 cup Cauliflower florets, 1 small Potato, 1/4 tsp ghee.

Steps: Boil diced potato and cauliflower florets in water for 12-15 minutes until very soft. Drain and mash thoroughly. Stir in ghee for healthy fats.

3 9 to 11 Months (Stage 3): Minced & Soft Finger Foods

Digestive Focus: Iron-rich, finger-friendly items that encourage self-feeding. Textures shift to minced, chopped soft, and easy-to-grip strips.

Recipe 1: Besan Chilla Strips

Ingredients: 2 tbsp Besan (gram flour), 3 tbsp water, pinch of turmeric, 1/4 tsp ghee.

Steps: Whisk besan, water, and turmeric into a smooth batter. Cook on a hot tawa with ghee for 2 minutes on each side until fully set. Cool and cut into long, finger-sized strips.

Recipe 2: Aloo Paratha (Chopped)

Ingredients: 1/4 cup Wheat flour, 1 boiled potato (mashed), 1/4 tsp ghee.

Steps: Roll potato mash inside soft wheat dough disc. Roll thin and cook on tawa with ghee until fully cooked. Let cool, then tear into tiny, soft, bite-sized pieces.

4 12 Months+ (Stage 4): Toddler Bites & Family Foods

Digestive Focus: Broad, complex ingredients and texture diversity. Soft-baked items, finger-chews, and bite-sized family recipes.

Recipe 1: Apple Oat Bars

Ingredients: 1/2 Apple, 1/4 cup oats, 1/4 cup water or breastmilk.

Steps: Steam diced apples until soft and mash. Mix with oats and liquid to form a thick dough. Spread 1/2-inch thick on a dish, steam for 15 minutes, let cool, and cut into bars.

Recipe 2: Carrot Cake Bites

Ingredients: 1/4 cup grated carrots, 1/4 cup oat flour, 1 soft date (soaked & mashed), pinch of cinnamon.

Steps: Mix ingredients into a thick dough. Roll into bite-sized balls and steam for 10 minutes until firm. Let cool completely before serving.
